Boys and the Ocean
This commission painting that I have recently finished has its very sweet little story as all painting usually are. My client wanted to make a birthday gift to her sister and she ordered a painting from the picture that was taken long time ago. The picture was with three sons watching the surfers at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, California. Boys Dad used to work for the US Geological Survey and he spent a lot of time on the sea. When his sons grew up he passed the love to the ocean to them. They absorbed the ocean into their blood, became experienced divers, and could not imagine their lives without the big water. When I was painting this piece, I tried to show the boys that are not just looking at the Ocean, but rather looking to their Future. It was so much fun to paint fairly large for my scale painting and make a big washes of the sky and the water yet apply tiny details for the rocks' texture and the boys' figures.
