Valentine's Designs

watercolor card
When my customers started purchasing Valentine's Cards in January, I was surprised at first but then realized: "Oh, that's right, Valentine's Day is right behind the corner!"
It inspired me to created more designs for this lovely (literally) holiday. And it din't take too long to fill the gallery with more flowers.
It is great that people are still sending good old cards by snail mail these days. It has some charm chic, isn't it!

I am guilty, I keep sending electronic cards out. Luckily, everyone now can do it too through the internet licensing websites.
I am not an exception, the Valentine's Gallery is now extended to carry electronic cards as well.

The new designs above were added to both galleries, the "paper gallery" and the "electronic gallery"

Happy Sooner Than YOU Think Valentine's Day!!

Doodling With Color

decorative abstract painting
Following a good advice I was given recently: Never be afraid to try something new; I decided to have a new twist on some good old watercolor techniques.

I created these unique patterns by simply doodling.

Per Oxford Dictionary, definition of “doodling” is to draw or scribble absentmindedly. Being interested to follow that suggestion, I decided to apply the paint on the paper while listening some peaceful meditative music. A lot of time I have a nice music in the studio when painting. But this time I turned on a deep meditation music.
So, basically, I was "marrying" together the soothing sounds with unconscious choice of the color, which allowed to bring this and other paintings to life. I think, these artworks merge the sounds of music into a dance of color. The lines and forms were subconsciously placed on the surface of the paper by my subconscious artist’s hand.

When some of my friend artists looked at the painting below, he noticed the Treble Clef there.. Honest to say, I did not think I put it there.. It just came there as by magic :0)

Decorative Abstract painting

To my surprise some of the paintings reminded me (when later looking at them) a flowing floral pattern:

and in one of them, if to look from the distance, I "placed" a dancing figure in it. I swear, I didn't think to put it there.. It was all that meditative state of doodling!

It is always fun to try something new!

These and other paintings from the series are in Meditation And Affirmation gallery now.

In The Garden

realism in watercolor gazebo

I called this painting In The Garden though this name is more applicable to a series that is getting bigger month after month.
Visualizing this landscape was easy for me. The whole composition just popped up in front of my eyes, in my mind. And then I just needed to apply what I imagined on the paper.

I imagined a soft breeze playing with the tops of the cypress trees. Some pink and purple flowers in the flower bed are competing in their beauty with the red geranium in the decorative vases. Only the songs of the birds are interrupting the peaceful moment in the garden.

A little girl just woke up after a nice nap. She is sitting on the steps of the house, and looking at the garden. Yet she is not along as you can notice. The garden gazebo is welcoming some light figure there. Was it a trick that the afternoon shadows were playing; or, a young lady is coming up to the steps in her shimmering dress? Perhaps, she is a visitor from a dream. The girl is half asleep. She is holding her favorite toy, her Teddy Bear. The afternoon sun is warming up the ground and the tiles of the steps. It is a beautiful peaceful time, when a dream mixes up with reality. It is a warm Summer day, good for a daydreaming and a nice walk.

Here is a few other paintings from In The Garden series that came out of my imagination recently:

Letter To My Dad

...or: Progression through Regression..

This post will be unusual and most likely the longest post I've ever written.
Somebody will not be able to read it through at all.
Yet, here is my letter to my Dad.
In order to understand the style, one should know a feature that characterizes Russian people. It is not common to say I love you to your loved one in Russia.
No kidding here.
- I love you
is a very strong set of words in Russia.
And that's is why I decided to write an "angry" teenage style letter to my Dad.
(the Russian translation is to follow the English one)

To My Dad
Hi Dad,
I thought I can speak honestly without any cover-upper. I want to present a few facts that bugged me when I was a kid.
How in the world you could have a child when you were just 19 years old? Did you think you can pass all the knowledge to your baby at that age?!
And what were you thinking when wherever we went whatever time it was, when you were drilling Ancient Greeks myths into my head just like an evening fairy-tale; did you believe it will stick to me? Or, whenever you left a book with the art works of the famous artists on your table, did you think I noticed. Or, when drugging all the family every other weekend to a museum of art, it would do any good? Or, when you turned ol’ good music as loud as could be and chatted with your friends about life, did you think I couldn’t hear?! When you and mom collected the last money you had and enrolled me into the art school, what were you thinking?!! Did you really think that your daughter can become an artist, or will be able to express herself through the arts, sell the paintings; and, all of that in the Soviet Union times when Perestroika was not even on the script of Russian history…did you? Or, when you were as old as could be (as a kid I remember you were around 30 something) you, all of a sudden, started doing ceramics and built miniature statues; did you think you could inspire me to make some ceramic art at age 40? Or when you started painting icons, did you ever think that you would get request from the U.S. to paint more; and that will also influence me and encourage painting more? You really thought that pushing on me classic art collections of the World museums through the post stamps will do good to my brain, didn’t you? Oh my gosh! Turning page after page of that antique stamp collections did you think your vibes will reach mine? Oh, here is another creepy example: why in the world did you think your teenage daughter might get hurt in the big dark city of Saint Petersburg going home from the evening class from the art college ; why did you embarrass her by going on another side of the street making sure that she got home safe? Why? Why?! Why?!! Why did you trigger her artistic ego by constantly yakking about a good art expo or a good art project you just started when she was already in America painting art? Did you envision it might inspire her and she will paint more? Did you really think that it would work?!

So, guess what, it all did! And I cannot imagine having a better Dad than you are. I can only wish people have fathers like you, an old cranky stubborn Man!

Big Thank-YOU from the artist to the Artist! :0)

All My Love!
Your Daughter
