Carmel Mission Basilica - Watercolor Painting On Canvas

Watercolor Painting on Canvas Carmel by The Sea mission

This watercolor artwork was painted on a special canvas, that is made for watercolors and acrylic paints. I painted it on one of my trips to Carmel By The Sea, a beautiful quiet town where this Spanish Mission was built.
The garden next to Basilica was full of flowers and the fountain was my focal point in this composition. Painting on the spot, el plein-air style, is not an easy task. The artist needs to be quick and spontaneous when painting rapidly changing weather. The morning sky cleared rather quickly that day; but, I am happy I was able to catch those fresh strikes of the clouds at the beginning, which gave this nice live look to the painting.

Watercolor Sunset - Landscape Painting Of Columbia River Gorge

Sunset above Columbia River painted in watercolour

Painting sunset in watercolor requires a lot of pre-thinking and yet when painting it needs to be done quickly before the paint dries. The technique I used for the sky was wet-on-wet.

I watched carefully that the Sun's area stayed reserved and the sun rays were "melting" into the evening sky. One who paints sunset in watercolor needs to remember that the yellow of the sun and the blue of the sky might get a slight shade of green when mixed together on the paper. Therefore, it is important to add a little of pink towards the edges of the green. It is invisible on the completed watercolor painting but it is there.. it melts with the blue of the mountains and the sky and helps atmospheric perspective to take place.

Watercolor Landscape - State Of Washington Columbia River Gorge

watercolor landscape by the artist Irina Sztukowski
Watercolor Painting of Columbia River Gorge, State Of Washington. Artist - Irina Sztukowski
This painting of a beautiful view of Columbia River Gorge and far mountains of Oregon that you can see from the state of Washington shore I painted el plein-air style.

The weather was constantly changing as the Fall breeze was shaving the leaves from the trees and making wave-like movements on still green grass. The Sun was trying to get through the clouds. I called that sky a watercolor sky as the clouds formations were precisely what happens to watercolor when you put wet paint on a pre-wet paper. The sky practically "painted" itself.

Farm Animals Watercolor Paintings

goat and horse painted in watercolour

This week I've completed three paintings with farm animals.

The inspiration came from visiting one nice farm next to Columbia River in the State Of Washington. I enjoyed a stay at the ranch house with those cute curios animals that the owner keeps as pets.

A curious goat:

Two sweet female goats that loved the petting so much that they would come to the fence right away when they saw me:

And I couldn't not to paint a gorgeous horse that was grazing at the pasture:
