Finland Turku Castle Watercolor Painting by The Artist Irina Sztukowski
I invite you again to a northern country. The summers are there are splendid, warm, mellow, and enjoyable.
Turku Castle watercolor painting in Finland. It is a part of my Travel Around The World with arts project.
Here is a little bit of history:
Turku Castle is a medieval building in the city with the same name in Finland. This ancient construction is one of the oldest buildings; and, it is still in use. Also, it is worth noting that this castle is the largest surviving medieval building in whole Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century. Its location is strategic, right on the banks of theAura River. Turku Castle was a bastion and administrative center in Sweden province called Eastland, when it was still belonging to Sweden. Finland was known during its time as a province of Sweden. The sad part of the history for this castle was when Russian occupants invaded from Novgorod and tried to destroy Turku in 1318. Thankfully the castle survived. It also struggled for power between Sweden and Kalmar Union. The castle's prime time was in the middle of 16th century during the reign of Duke John of Finland. Those days the Renaissance part of the building , the Floor and King's and Queen's hall were built, along with other features. Turku Castle later on lost its status as an administrative center in the 17th century. Today, the castle is most visited museum in Finland, somewhat 200 thousands of people see this beautiful medieval building each year. As this castle is well utilized not only as a museum but as well a cultural events place, many of its larger rooms are now used for municipal functions.
Around The World Travel Gallery became very popular in the last year, I've sold many artworks with famous places and I am glad that my followers and art appreciators are adding my art to their home collections.
